Operations Recommence at Edinburgh Airport In the Wake of Substantial ATC System Failure
Air travel have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport following a major air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.
All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an technical fault that occurred at about 08:30.
Several flyers were left waiting in planes on the runway as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
Nonetheless, considerable delays are likely to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with a host of additional flights subject to postponements.
An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be disrupted.
"Passengers are advised to get in touch with their carrier for the most up-to-date details on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its air traffic control provider.
Flyers are still being urged to check the status of their flight before heading to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
