Ex- FBI director James Comey has denied the charges to making false statements to congressional representatives and obstructing a congressional proceeding.

Mr Comey's legal representative filed the answer on his behalf in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.

His attorney declared he would attempt to have the legal matter thrown out for several causes including that his client, a opponent of President Donald Trump, was being singled out.

The former director was charged just days after Donald Trump pressured his top legal official to proceed against him.

Judicial Process

At the proceedings on mid-week, Comey's lawyer the legal representative advised the judge they intended to file several legal requests to dismiss the legal matter before a legal hearing, stating the government's case was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was unlawfully assigned to take over the case.

James Comey's legal matter was initially managed by the original attorney, who resigned under pressure from Trump after his investigation into an additional rival - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to initiate prosecution.

Legal Setting

James Comey appeared in good spirits as he walked into the courtroom on Wednesday, conversing with his legal team and being lighthearted. He was supported by his spouse, his wife and offspring Maureen Comey, a government attorney who the Trump administration dismissed.

Following the reading to the judge recite his rights and the two counts against him in court on Wednesday, Mr Comey was questioned if he comprehended the charges.

"I do your honour. Appreciate it," he informed the judge.

Previous Events

Mr Comey was the FBI Director from four years and was terminated about several months into Donald Trump's first administration as president. At the moment, Mr Comey was leading an investigation into international campaign influence and whether there were any relationships between Russia and the presidential campaign.

Throughout his leadership, the director caused a backlash from liberal politicians when he declared just days before the 2016 election that he was investigating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's use of a non-governmental email account. Legal actions against Clinton were never brought, causing disapproval from Republicans as well.

Current Allegations

The federal government assert James Comey lied to Congress during a legislative proceeding in 2020 when he was being examined about both the Clinton investigation as well as the Russia election probe. They claim he provided false information to the upper house by claiming he had not authorized an individual at the FBI to disclose to journalistic entities data about the government examinations.

Legal representatives also charge James Comey of "corruptly endeavoring to affect, hinder and delay" the legislative group by giving misleading testimony to it.

Individual Responses

Through a recording Mr Comey published to his online platform after he was charged, he said he was wrongly accused and accused Donald Trump of acting like a "dictator".

"My family and I have understood for years that there are ramifications to opposing Donald Trump," he commented. "We will not live on our knees."
"I'm innocent," he continued. "Thus initiate a trial."

The accusations against the former director emerged after Trump posted on social media insisting on his top legal official, the attorney general, charge Mr Comey and other people.
